The guard nods to the elf. "He's very busy, but I think he wants to see some of you about the impending attacks. Make your case and be prepared to leave."
He then opens the door and escorts Aramil inside.
Inside Gaverek's office there are two tables, one with a map of the surrounding coutryside out to about 15 miles, and the other a map of the town and the outskirts out to about a mile.
On the first map small grey flags are pinned in the parchment at regular intervals, forming two lines mimicking the town walls, one 5 miles out, the other 10-15 miles out. Arching around these flags are green blocks, 3 to 6 per flag. A clerk is reading off numbers and locations while a captain and master sergeant add and adjust blocks as necessary.
On the second table two captains and a lieutenant are moving grey flags on small stands with unit numbers painted on them, debating the positioning of one unit at the southern wall or the eastern wall.
Lord Gaverek stands between the two tables, overseeing the progress on each. A messenger opens one of the office's rear doors and announces, "Stonefield Tower reports 15 more casualties, and estimating 8000 goblins surrounding the outpost. Still no reports from the exterior perimeter since 1600 hrs."
A clerk writes "Stonefield, 8000, 2" on a piece of paper and pins it to a board where similar sheets are hanging, replacing a Slip that says "Stonefield, 5000, 17".
A collective sigh is heard in the room as everyone watches the new sheet get tacked up. Over a dozen other sheets are pinned to the same wall, reading "Blacktree, 4000, 0" and "Southrun, 12000, 4" and similar.
Gaverek turns to see Aramil, nods his head and gestures for the druid to approach. "Aramil. Times are dire. What news have you?"

Gaverek looks at Aramil rooster-eyed for a second, then states, "Once the refugees have all made it into town, the gates will be closed. They won't open for you or Hogarth once we close them. You take your life in your own hands."

"The man at the door said you may wish to see me regarding the attacks. After my buisness with Hogarth is concluded how can I help?"

"See to your business with Hogarth. If you return we can speak on what else you can do."
One of the captains calls for Lord Gaverek's attention and he turns away from the druid to observe an arrangement of blocks on one of the tables.
