Dryads are female sylvan native to forests and woodlands. Though it is rare, some are attached instead to well-established orchards. Dryads have a very close relationship to trees and forests, and detest their wanton destruction.
Entlings are male sylvan native to forests and woodlands. Most are protectors of a grove or copse of trees, but some are dedicated instead to protecting a single ancient tree. Entlings have a very close relationship to trees and forests, and detest their wanton destruction.
Dryads and Entlings look very wooden in appearance, some having skin like bark, and others like stained wood. Their hair may be entirely made of leaves or roots, or similar to human hair in shades of green and brown. In the fall, their hair tends to change colors with the leaves of the trees. Dryads and Entlings can take after any kind of tree. Some look like poplars, some like redwood, but most look like maple and oak. Pine Dryads and Entlings do exist, but tend to be more savage and xenophobic than their deciduous relatives.
Fawn & Satyr
Fawns are female sylvan who celebrate life and liveliness. They usually have a commune to which they belong, hidden somewhere deep in the woods. When not in their commune, they travel the countryside, and find it impossible to resist parties and celebrations.
Fawns have the upper body appearance of a human, halfling, or elven woman, and the lower body of a deer’s hind-parts. Young Fawn will grow antler buds in the fall, and these will increase in size as they age, to full antlers at old age. The antlers always fall off in the late winter. Wearing a dress to hide their legs, and a hat to hide their antlers, Fawns can easily pass for a female human, halfling, or elf.
Satyr are male sylvan devoted to pleasure and indulgence. They tend to live solitary wandering lives. Most are accomplished musicians, storytellers and comedians. In every town and Hamlet they visit, they create festive atmospheres, and a visiting Satyr often turns into a festival or town fair. This is actually the Satyr’s primary mating ritual to attract Fawns.
Satyr have the upper body appearance of a human, halfling, or elven male, and the lower body of a goat’s hind-parts. Young Satyr will have small horn-buds, which grow to large curling ram’s horns in old age. Some Satyr may hide their goat features with robes and hats, but most prefer to flaunt their appearance. Most Satyr grow goatees or beards.
Nymph
Nymphs are beautiful creatures similar in appearance to an elf. Nymphs often live alone in or near pristine pools of water in the woodlands. In general, nymphs prefer light and flowing clothing, and are preoccupied with their appearance.
Nymphs are always confident, often arrogant and usually narcissistic.
Nix & Nixie
Nixes and Nixies are sprites who are heavily aquatic in nature. Families and villages of Nixies can be found in the center of large lakes, in caves and reefs with large enough pockets of air. They tend to be happy in their own community and while not necessarily xenophobic, don’t have much interest in land dwellers.
Nixes and Nixies have bluish-green tinted skin, and adorn themselves in freshwater shells and fish scales. Their clothing is often made out of seaweed that is stripped and woven similar to flax.
Brownies
Brownies are mischievous sylvan who thrive on pranks and mayhem. Most brownies live near other settlements, in earthen homes dug into hillsides. These homes are easily camouflaged and often serve as hide-outs after particularly nasty pranks.
Brownies have pointy ears like elves, but otherwise resemble humans and halflings. Brownies refuse to wear any color but brown and rarely bathe. They smell of dirt and must. Brownies can be easily identified based on their wardrobe, dirty face and wide grins.
Kami
Kami are a type of Sylvan native to the Far East. These “Nature Spirits” are similar to dryads and entlings, but may be attached to rivers, lakes, mountains, or any other natural location or thing. Kami can be solitary or communal, but each has a particular agenda, a reason for being that never changes throughout their existence.
Kami may appear similar in appearance to any humanoid race, but can be distinguished by their facial markings, which resembles kabuki style theater make-up. Of course, the Kami appearance came before the make-up style.
Jinn
Jinn are sand nomads who travel the deserts of the north. Jinn dress in common Arabic attire, favoring bright colors and fine cloth. While they are primarily found in the northern wastes, they are not tied to sand as much as magic. The race has a strong affinity to the arcane, and most are mages and enchanters. Rarely, a community of Jinn will form a bazaar around an oasis and create a lucrative trade market for their own comfort.
Jinn have the physical appearance of an average human, except that they have blue skin. Many Jinn hide in trade caravans by utilizing scarves and veils to conceal their skin color. In their oasis communities, some will be open about their heritage, while other prefer to remain incognito.
